The lighthouse of Al-Wajh port stands as a witness to Tabuk’s cultural enrichment and commercial, economic, and educational prosperity.
The lighthouse was built in 1292 AH to guide ships anchoring at Al-Wajh port, reflecting the region’s urban heritage.
Historic landmark
The lighthouse was constructed after an increase in vessel traffic in the Red Sea following the opening of the Suez Canal. Its ruins still serve as an important historical landmark in the province.
Shining for 10 miles
The lighthouse height is about 14 meters and has four sides. In the middle of each side are three openings. It was lit with a special oil after sunset until dawn to guide ships at night; vessels could see its flame from 10 miles away.
The municipality of Al-Wajh has constructed a model of the old lighthouse located at the southern entrance to the city.
